YAHOO! Hope is here again in her regular winter stomping grounds
YAHOO! Hope is here again in her regular winter stomping grounds. Thanks to avid birder and photographer Lisa Yntema on St. Croix, Hope was spotted on Great Pond in her regular wintering spot on August 19th. This the 7th year Lisa has verified she is on-island. Hope first came to the attention of birdwatchers on St. Croix in 2009 when she showed up with a tracking device put on her in Virginia of that year. Now Hope is always recognizable by the green band she wears on her left leg.
Barry Truitt from The Nature Conservancy estimates that Hope has now flown over 90,000 miles, based on past flight data. Check out this link – http://www.ccbbirds.org/2015/
Welcome back Hope! And thanks Lisa, for letting me know she’s here again, and for the great photo that shows her looking healthy and happy. GO HOPE!
