Hope was at Great Pond on St. Croix on 26 August 2017
Yahoo! Hope was back on St. Croix since she was first tagged in 2009. If I was good at math I’d calculate how many 51,000 trips she has made based on how many times she’s been here. Can you figure that out? I am so happy to see her looking healthy and fit. Thanks Lisa for being as big a Hope fan as I am and for the excellent photos again this year. HOPE IS HERE again!
“Hope was at Great Pond on 26 August 2017. She seemed fine, walked about, did several stretches, preened very briefly, nabbed one small something (fiddler crab most likely)… There were two other whimbrels in the area that called after she did, five WIPL, a Willet, SPSA, BBPL, GRHE, coumbids… I was last at Great Pond on 15 August and did not see Hope that day. The black mangroves are showing a bit of new growth. Although many (not all) of the red mangroves are dead, there are a few seedlings growing here and there. The outlet between the pond and the sea has not been reopened but there is still some water exchange. And it is rainy season!” – Lisa (Shared on August 27, 2017)
